Impact of the PE Premium Sports grant
The Sports premium has been above the minimum requirement of the Core PE lessons to develop agility, physical co-ordination, fitness, confidence and enjoyment through PE lessons. The school is able to use the playground and school field for its PE sessions and has access to swimming facilities in Key Stage 2 as described below.
The curriculum has been structured to include regular competitions within the cluster and beyond. We have before and after-school sports clubs including netball, gymnastics and athletics for which there is not a charge. This includes opportunities for all year groups. The sports resources and equipment, including a trim trail, are maintained and replenished as appropriate.
Key Stage 2 children go swimming at Diss Leisure Centre during the Autumn and Spring term. The current Year 6 children went swimming in Lower Key Stage 2. They have been assessed to see if they meet the national curriculum requirement to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres using a range of strokes effectively and perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations. 79% of the children meet these requirements.
Children from Reception to Year 6 enjoy a Forest School afternoon every week, encouraging outdoor learning and physical exercise. There is an opportunity to learn all about nature in-situ.
The school is in receipt of funding from the Government as part of a National Strategy. The proposed way of spending this is in the document below. This is a working document so will change throughout the year.
Sport Premium 2017-18 Based on the current allocation of £8,000 plus £5 per pupil: £8,440. Additionally the government has announced that the allocation will be doubled for the academic year. This plan outlines the need of the school as finalised before the announcement was publicised and shows a slight surplus which should be planned for allocated after a baseline survey and review of the quality, effectiveness and variety of PE and Sport provision in the school has been undertaken based on the five key indicators: The review should encompass the vision for PE and Sport that: ‘ALL pupils leaving primary school physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy, active lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport’.
