Our topic began when we discovered a rather large egg and some footprints in our outdoor area and decided to investigate where they came from! The Lions have thoroughly enjoyed this topic and have learnt lots of information about dinosaurs. They have had fun making and excavating their own fossils, measuring dinosaurs on the playground and have learnt about endangered species and extinction. They also held a cake sale to raise money to sponsor the Bearded Dragons at Banham Zoo.
This half term at Forest School we have been observing signs of Spring and looking at ‘changes’. We have noticed lots of changes occurring in our pond area, including the transformation of Tadpoles into Frogs and newly hatched Blue Tits growing in our Bird box. We have had a fantastic time pond dipping, tree climbing, perfume making and cooking popcorn on the campfire, and have developed our skills in working as a team!
As part of our topic on the circus, the Lions followed simple instructions to paint each other’s faces to look like clowns. It was so much fun and everyone looked fantastic!
Last week we were lucky enough to receive a very special visit from Circus Ferrel. As part of the experience, the whole school gathered on the school field to watch the Big Top go up. The Lions found this very exciting and discussed what it might look like inside. Some thought it might be very dark and a little bit scary and others thought that there could be big lights and lots of seats! After seeing the circus tent go up, we all had loads of fun catching a sneak preview of some of the acts. This included Marty the Clown, who was a big hit with the Lions! The following day we put our own circus skills to the test and had a go at juggling, plate spinning, tight-rope walking, and Diablo. The Lions had so much fun and really impressed with their balancing and coordination!
